On October 22, Anthropic said it is donating Agent Skills, an open standard for giving AI agents specialized knowledge and workflows, to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF). AAIF sits under the Linux Foundation. Anthropic co-founded it with Block and OpenAI, and previously donated the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to the same foundation. DigIntoAI has not tested Agent Skills or the donation handoff.

What Anthropic says about adoption

Anthropic writes that more than 70 agent platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code, have integrated Agent Skills since the standard was published in December 2025. Those figures are Anthropic's. A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file plus any scripts or reference material an agent needs for a task. Anthropic says the format grew out of work on Claude Code. For coding-agent context on DigIntoAI, see Claude Code vs Codex and best coding agents.

What is being donated

Anthropic says it is donating the Agent Skills name and logo, the GitHub organization, and the agentskills.io domain. Per Anthropic, people can keep using or contributing to the standard without joining AAIF. Engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and other companies will maintain the standard as individuals, with named lead maintainers.

Same-day AAIF additions

On the same day, AAIF announced three other new projects alongside Agent Skills, bringing hosted projects to 10 in its first year, per the foundation's release. Open Responses, from OpenAI, is an open specification for multi-provider LLM interfaces based on the Responses API. OpenEnv, from Hugging Face, is an open framework for building and sharing reinforcement-learning environments. OpenSandbox, from Alibaba, is a general-purpose sandbox platform for AI apps with multi-language SDKs and Docker or Kubernetes runtimes. DigIntoAI is not expanding those three beyond this one-line each.
