A model ID that Moonshot AI hasn't announced, "k3d1-agent," appears in the script Kimi's website uses to handle model selection. The file is served from Moonshot's own static server and is loaded by kimi.com today, and the server's timestamp shows it was last modified at 22:01 Beijing time on October 15. It drew attention on October 17, when the X account @gpuhell posted about it at 21:16 Beijing time. Moonshot hasn't said anything about the model, so for now this is a name in the code rather than a release.
What the code shows
The script defines a new "make3d" mode for OK Computer, Kimi's task workspace, alongside the existing modes for slides, sheets, docs, websites, deep research and design. The new ID is tied to that mode: if make3d is selected and the chosen model is anything other than k3d1-agent, the code sends the user back to the home page. The other model IDs in the file refer to Kimi K2.5 and Kimi K3, both already public, with k2.5 as the default for plain chat and k3 as the default for agent tasks.
K3.1 or a 3D model?
@gpuhell read "k3d1" as Kimi K3.1 and told followers to "get hyped." That reading is possible, but the code doesn't settle it. The name can just as easily be read as "K3 plus 3D," or a first version of a 3D model, and the ID shows up only in connection with make3d. Nothing in the file links it to plain chat or agent mode, where k2.5 and k3 are still the defaults. Kimi's homepage already promotes K3 as able to build playable multiplayer and 3D games, so a dedicated 3D mode would also fit what the company is already pushing.
Earlier the same day, two other X accounts reported a separate change. @LeroyLi311063 posted at 19:22 Beijing time that the fingerprint of kimi-for-coding, the model behind Kimi Code, had changed, and @AiBattle_ followed at 19:45 with the values, from fpv0_a3373eb3 to fpv0_404e18bd. A new fingerprint shows something changed on the backend, but these are third-party observations, and nothing so far connects them to k3d1-agent.
What Moonshot's official channels show
As of 22:30 Beijing time on October 17, none of Moonshot's official channels mention k3d1-agent or K3.1. The Kimi Code docs still list kimi-for-coding as K2.8 Preview, and the Moonshot platform pricing pages don't include either name. On Hugging Face, the newest moonshotai model is still Kimi-K3, uploaded on June 13, and OpenRouter lists no Kimi model newer than K3. The official Kimi account on X last posted on October 15, a Kimi Work tutorial. Moonshot hasn't published anything about this model's specs, price, context length or availability.
We'll update this article once Moonshot announces something.
