OpenAI is acquiring Orchestra Bio, a platform that helps biopharma teams coordinate the complex process of drug development. OpenAI announced the deal on X at 02:10 Beijing time on October 21 and posted a matching announcement on the OpenAI site.
According to the announcement, OpenAI is bringing Orchestra Bio's team and technology together with Rosalind, OpenAI's AI models and tools for life sciences research. Rosalind includes GPT-Rosalind, which helps scientists reason through questions in biology and chemistry, and Rosalind Workbench, which connects those capabilities with scientific tools and data to help researchers analyze results and plan experiments.
OpenAI says the goal is to help scientists make discoveries and manage the work needed to turn discoveries into treatments that reach patients sooner. Together with Orchestra Bio, OpenAI aims to build agents that help teams connect scientific findings with the studies, decisions and next steps needed to advance a potential medicine. Orchestra Bio is described as a platform where people and AI agents work together to advance drug programs, including monitoring and tracking studies and campaigns.
The OpenAI announcement does not disclose the purchase price or other deal terms.
