On October 22, 2026, GitHub published a Changelog update for the Copilot Impact dashboard. This note is about opt-in industry peer comparisons of agentic adoption and leverage—not the same story as named skills or client totals in the usage metrics API. For related usage-metrics coverage, see GitHub Copilot Usage Metrics Now Count OpenCode and Other Clients.

What’s new

The Impact dashboard now includes an Industry comparison section. Enterprises, and organizations that aren’t owned by an enterprise, can compare their Copilot agentic adoption and leverage with aggregated benchmarks from participating peers.

Participation is opt-in and disabled by default. Opt-in is available from the dashboard or centrally via enterprise or organization Copilot policies. Both places use the same policy: turning it off in either place stops both contributing data and seeing comparisons.

Metrics cover:

  • the percentage of users who are agent-first or multi-agent
  • the pull request merge rate of agentic users versus nonagentic users

Once enough peers have opted in, each score is ranked against the peer median for the 28-day reporting period, and against the top decile as the peer group grows.

How peers and rankings work

Peer groups combine company size (for example 1–999, 1,000–4,999, or 5,000+ employees) with one of ten industries. The dashboard can switch between a selected industry and all industries. If the industry peer group is too small, the comparison widens to all industries for that company size, and the dashboard labels which peer group it used.

Rankings appear only after enough businesses have opted in. Especially soon after launch, results may show only the median, a broader peer group than selected, or no ranking until more peers join. Rankings also aren’t shown when an org’s own score can’t be calculated—for example when all users are already agent-first or multi-agent, leaving no nonagentic baseline for leverage.

Comparisons refresh daily. Opt out and comparisons stop appearing right away; contributed data is excluded starting with the next daily update. Aggregated benchmarks contain no identifying data and are deleted after 30 days.

Caveats: residency, dashboard-only, and who can join

On GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency, comparisons are only with participants in the same region. Data is never combined across regions.

Organizations owned by an enterprise participate through their enterprise. Enterprises used only to assign Copilot Business licenses can’t participate. Enterprise owners, and owners of standalone organizations, can opt in and set the peer group. Anyone who can view the Impact dashboard can see the results. The Copilot usage metrics policy must be enabled.

Industry comparisons appear only in the dashboard. They are not included in the Copilot Usage Metrics API, NDJSON exports, or downloads.

A live Copilot Impact dashboard has not been signed into on this site. How the peer labels look in a real tenant, whether rankings appear for a given size and industry yet, and how the scores line up with internal goals—that detail is not available here yet.
