GPT-6 is now rolling out in ChatGPT's Chat tab to Free and Go users. OpenAI started with Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise on October 7 and expanded the rollout to Free and Go on October 8. OpenAI calls the rollout global but doesn't say when a given account will see it. If GPT-6 isn't in your model menu yet, OpenAI says it may not have reached your account.
Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise subscribers get GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday conversation. On Enterprise, whether you see it depends on how your workspace admin has set things up. For how Sol, Luna and Astra differ and which plan gets which, see our explainer "OpenAI Puts GPT-6 in Free ChatGPT, but Sol and Astra Stay Behind the Paywall".
What Intelligent UI adds
The bigger change is Intelligent UI. OpenAI says GPT-6 can now build answers out of text, visuals and interactive pieces such as graphics, charts, tappable buttons and forms. Its examples include a calculator, a bill splitter and simple games you can use right inside the conversation. ChatGPT picks the format by itself and falls back to plain text when that works better, so you don't have to ask for it.
GPT-6 can also start replying while it's still thinking. For questions that need a web search, OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant begins its answer 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. That number is about when the answer starts, not how long it takes to finish.
Intelligent UI works on every setting from Instant through Extra High, but not on the Pro reasoning option, which still runs on GPT-6 Astra. It doesn't come with its own quota either, so it counts against your plan's normal limits.
Where you use ChatGPT matters too. Notebookcheck, citing OpenAI's help page, reports that older ChatGPT desktop apps for Windows and macOS don't support Intelligent UI and that OpenAI recommends the web version instead. On phones, you need the latest app. If you'd rather see fewer visuals, Notebookcheck says you can turn off Layout and visuals in Settings on the web, though that won't make ChatGPT text-only.
Codex and ChatGPT Work don't change
If you mainly use Codex, nothing changes today. OpenAI says this release only touches Chat and leaves the models behind ChatGPT Work and Codex alone. Its system card spells out how: Chat moves to new October versions of GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, while Codex and ChatGPT Work stay on the September versions.
That means the date Codex users should keep in mind is still October 14, when GPT-5.5 leaves Codex on every ChatGPT plan. Our guide "GPT-5.5 Leaves Codex on October 14: What to Switch to and What to Fix" walks through what to change.
OpenAI's pages don't match yet
There's one loose end. Notebookcheck points out that OpenAI's help page still lists GPT-5.6 Luna as the default for Free and Go users, including for the Think option, while the release notes say GPT-6 Luna. We'll update this article if OpenAI clears it up.
