On October 22, 2026, MiniMax published Mini App for the MiniMax Code desktop app. Per the official blog and docs, a Mini App is a long-running application with a frontend and a backend: it installs as a plugin, and it and the Agent can call each other so work stays on a live page instead of scattering across chats.

That is not the same as asking the Agent for a one-shot HTML page. MiniMax's overview says a generated HTML dashboard only shows data from the moment it was built; to refresh, push work forward, or save results, you have to go back to chat. A Mini App adds a Node service that keeps running and a data directory that survives restarts and upgrades; two-way calls with the Agent through hosted MCP; and permissions the host enforces (credentials stay with the host, capabilities need a manifest grant, and the service port is open only to the page and the Agent).

Official docs give everyday examples you can ask the Agent to build on the spot: a Pomodoro timer, an expense tracker, or a monitoring page. The release also ships a Mini App runtime, the /miniapp-creator flow in chat, marketplace apps, and an open-source community repository. DigIntoAI has not tried those flows.

Where it runs—and where it won't

Mini Apps run in local sessions of the MiniMax Code desktop app on macOS and Windows. Cloud, SSH, and Remote Control sessions never start Mini Apps on your machine. That limit appears in both the overview and the sessions documentation.

Limits worth reading before you install

MiniMax's security model says Mini App Node code runs on your machine as you, like local plugins and MCP servers: it can read and write files you can access, start programs, and make network requests. The host does not use operating-system sandboxes such as seccomp or seatbelt; it limits what it exposes instead. The blog tells users to install only from sources they trust. Local run is not a security sandbox.

The blog and Mini App docs we checked do not state a separate price or plan for Mini App. Treat plan and fees as not verified; do not assume the feature is free. For MiniMax model and plan context on DigIntoAI, see MiniMax M3.1 Flash and Claude Code with GLM, Kimi, Qwen and MiniMax plans.

We have not installed MiniMax Code Mini App and have not tested the runtime, /miniapp-creator, marketplace installs, or session limits on a live machine.
