Perplexity Computer can now run fully locally on a Mac, Perplexity announced on X at 23:48 Beijing time on October 20.

According to the announcement, both the model and the agent run on the Mac. Perplexity says Computer can work with native Mac apps and local files and run tasks without sending sensitive data to the cloud. The feature is available now in the Perplexity Mac app.

In a follow-up post, Perplexity said local tasks use PPLX Pro, its post-trained version of Qwen 3.8, and do not consume Computer credits.

For more complex work, a Hybrid option can split a task between a cloud model and a local model on the Mac. Perplexity says this approach keeps sensitive data private.

A third post in the same official thread says local mode is available now to Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers on supported Apple silicon Macs, and that 36GB of unified memory is recommended.
