Anthropic published Claude Code 2.1.318 to the npm package @anthropic-ai/claude-code. At write-up time, dist-tags show latest=next=2.1.318, while stable remains 2.1.311. The registry records time["2.1.318"] as 2026-11-03T21:55:17.247Z, which is 2026-11-04 05:55 Asia/Shanghai. The package modified stamp 2026-11-04T00:01:06.916Z lines up with about 2026-11-04 08:01 Asia/Shanghai, matching GitHub Release v2.1.318 published_at 2026-11-04T00:01:03Z (also 2026-11-04 08:01 Asia/Shanghai). A common install path is npm i -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code@latest. DigIntoAI hasn't installed or exercised this build.

What the official CHANGELOG lists for 2.1.318
The official CHANGELOG section ## 2.1.318 (aligned with GitHub Release v2.1.318) opens with several additions, then a long Fixed / Improved / Changed set across session, MCP, remote-control, cloud, network home directories, auto-update, VS Code, gateway, and self-hosted runners. The two visitor-facing headliners that match the search title are summarized below as written on the CHANGELOG; secondary items stay brief so the write-up stays a version brief, not a repair catalog.
Login expiry fields and a 10-day stderr warning
CHANGELOG wording: the date a stored claude.ai sign-in ends is added to claude auth status as loginExpiresAt, and to claude -p JSON results as credential_expires_at. Separately, a one-line stderr warning is added to claude -p text output, starting 10 days before a stored claude.ai sign-in ends.
In plain terms, operators can read when the stored login expires from status / JSON, and unattended text runs get a stderr heads-up in the final ten days—not a silent cliff. DigIntoAI has not triggered the warning path or inspected live loginExpiresAt / credential_expires_at values on a lab install.
The same cut also improves the failure message when a stored claude.ai login has already reached its time limit: the product now says so, and in claude -p names claude auth login and claude setup-token. That repair is related to expiry handling but is not elevated into the search title.
IDE terminals no longer auto-install the extension
CHANGELOG Changed wording: Claude Code no longer installs or updates the IDE extension when started in an IDE terminal; the documented path is /ide from an outside terminal, or the editor's extensions view.
That shifts install / update out of the in-IDE terminal launch path. DigIntoAI has not compared before/after behavior inside VS Code or other IDE terminals against 2.1.318.
Secondary notes (not in the search title)
The same cut adds items that matter for operators but are kept off the H1:
- Mods: when Claude Code asks to turn on mods it writes in a session, the product now keeps a record of the operator's answer.
- Mantle:
assume_roleon mantle upstreams of the Claude apps gateway, for a role in another AWS account and for per-developer AWS cost attribution. - Mod fork effort: an
effortoption on a mod's$.model.fork, so a quick side job can run atlowwhatever effort the session uses; the result reports the effort sent.
Beyond those additions, the CHANGELOG lists many Fixed / Improved / Changed lines spanning --continue conversation loss, macOS Bash stalls, permission-prompt key races, shared network home-directory config saves, MCP add/remove locking, plugin token-refresh races, remote-control and cloud session restarts, certificate-file tolerance, auto-update retries, VS Code sign-in/UI notes, gateway federation token warnings, and self-hosted runner spawn reasons. Those lines are real CHANGELOG entries; they are omitted from the search title on purpose so the write-up stays a version brief rather than a full repair index.
Dist-tags: latest is not stable
A recurring source of confusion on Claude Code npm cuts is mixing latest with stable. For 2.1.318:
| Dist-tag | Version at write-up |
|---|---|
latest | 2.1.318 |
next | 2.1.318 |
stable | 2.1.311 |
Installing with @latest tracks 2.1.318. Pinning @stable still resolves to 2.1.311 until Anthropic moves that tag—stable is still 2.1.311, not 2.1.318.
DigIntoAI hasn't run this build
DigIntoAI hasn't upgraded a production or lab install to 2.1.318, hasn't exercised claude auth status / claude -p expiry fields, hasn't waited out the 10-day stderr warning, and hasn't verified the IDE-terminal extension install change, mods answer recording, mantle assume_role, or mod $.model.fork effort. Install commands above are the usual npm path only. Product wording can change; the latest official CHANGELOG, GitHub Release, and npm registry tags take precedence.

In short
Claude Code 2.1.318 is on npm latest and next as of 2026-11-04 Asia/Shanghai, while stable stays on 2.1.311. The official CHANGELOG’s visitor-facing headliners are login expiry fields plus a 10-day stderr warning, and stopping auto-install / update of the IDE extension from an IDE terminal. A long tail of session, MCP, remote-control, cloud, network-home, and auto-update fixes ships in the same cut without owning the H1. DigIntoAI hasn't run this build; the notes above follow npm tags plus the official CHANGELOG and GitHub Release.
