Anthropic’s product note says Chat and Cowork first came together for Pro and Max in September. The same unified Claude experience is now generally available for Claude Enterprise on web, desktop, and mobile. Conversations start as chat; when a task needs to run code or work with files, Claude continues in an isolated cloud sandbox that Anthropic manages, then returns finished work in the same thread. Work can keep going after someone closes a laptop and can be picked up on another device. Chats, projects, connectors, skills, and plugins carry over.
Enterprise admins manage the rollout in Organization settings under Chat and Cowork unified. The help center says the capability is off by default and will be defaulted on November 16, 2026—owners can enable early or keep it disabled. It requires Chat plus Cloud code execution and file creation. It does not require turning on Cowork or Cowork in the cloud separately. Organizations that use zero data retention (ZDR), a HIPAA-ready configuration, or customer-managed encryption keys (CMEK) cannot turn it on yet and keep their current chat and Cowork setup; Anthropic says HIPAA support is expected after general availability and CMEK support is planned for a later release.
On cost, Claude Enterprise pricing stays usage-based. Anthropic states that, billed through usage, Claude Opus 5.5 costs about 40% less to run than Claude Opus 5 on typical workloads, and Claude Sonnet 5.5 costs up to 30% less than Claude Sonnet 5 for most work. Admins get Efficient mode, which keeps the unified experience on Sonnet and Haiku (new sessions start on Claude Sonnet 5.5 at low effort when Efficient mode is on), plus model entitlements by role, spend limits at organization, group, and member level, and pooled group budgets.
