OpenAI has updated GPT-6 Pro in ChatGPT. In its ChatGPT release notes dated October 16, 2026, OpenAI lists three changes to GPT-6 Pro in the Chat tab: faster responses, improved use of plugins and tools to carry out tasks, and multiple agents that can work on different parts of a task in parallel.
OpenAI also announced the update on X, where it calls the model GPT-6 Astra Pro. In OpenAI's help articles, the same option appears as GPT-6 Pro, powered by GPT-6 Astra.
What's new in GPT-6 Pro
The parallel-agent change works like this. OpenAI says GPT-6 Pro can now hand different parts of a task to multiple agents at the same time. OpenAI says you can follow their progress in the conversation and open completed tasks to see what each agent did.
The release notes don't say how many agents can run at once, how much faster responses are, or which plugins and tools work better. OpenAI hasn't published benchmark results for this update.
Who gets the update
OpenAI says the update is rolling out to eligible Pro users in ChatGPT. In managed workspaces, availability depends on workspace settings and rollout eligibility. OpenAI's post on X says the update is available to Pro users in the Chat tab.
Which plans include GPT-6 Pro
According to OpenAI's help article, GPT-6 Pro is available in ChatGPT on the Pro $100, Pro $200, Business and Enterprise plans. Enterprise access also depends on the workspace's model-access permissions. On September 4, OpenAI said GPT-6 Pro was available to all Pro, Business and Enterprise users.
To use it, select GPT-6 in the model menu and choose Pro as the effort level. GPT-6 Sol powers the Instant through Extra High levels, and GPT-6 Astra powers Pro. Plus doesn't include GPT-6 Pro in Chat, though OpenAI says Plus plans include GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex. OpenAI also says the Pro option doesn't support Intelligent UI.
Usage limits
OpenAI says GPT-6 Pro has usage limits, and a Pro subscription doesn't include unlimited use of it. On Pro $200, once you reach the weekly GPT-6 Pro limit, ChatGPT switches automatically to GPT-5.6 Thinking at Medium. On Pro $100, GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro draw from one shared weekly allowance.
On Business, Standard seats include 15 Pro messages per month and Premium seats include 50 Pro messages per week, shared between GPT-6 Pro and GPT-5.6 Sol Pro. ChatGPT Work and Codex have separate allowances. The release notes don't say whether the October 16 update changes any of these limits.
